So some of you may or may not have read the latest press releases from Apple Inc.  For those of you who are interested, here is what we can expect from Apple this holiday season. There is an incredible lineup of new products and services brought to the consumer market listed by Steve Jobs himself at the latest conference.

So what can we expect?

  • First of all, we have a new version of the iPod Classic. This product which originally housed 80GB of storage has now been upgraded to 120GB for the same price.
  • Next we have the new release of the iPod Nano. This new item now offers a slimmer and lighter design with a slightly improved battery life and an incredible LCD screen. It also has an incorporated Accelerometer which offers rotational support and shake-to-shuffle for track changing. Also a big thing is the new array of incredible colors, offering 9 nano-chromatic colors.
  • To complete the iPod range we also have a new iPod Touch. This new iPod is sporting the new firmware v2.1 which has some new features and stability updates. There is now a new slimmer design and it is more styled on the iPhone 3G. There are also a few new incorporated changes, with the likes of and added speaker for “casual listening” and the new ‘Nike + iPod‘. This feature normally requires an extra unit, but they have included the unit into the Touch itself.

These are the biggest updates from Apple but there are a few more worth a mention. So here are the others:

  • iTunes 8 with HD technology
  • Genius features on all iPod/iPhones and iTunes for smart playlist creation
  • Earphones with added volume control and microphone for use with iPod lines
  • New in-ear ear buds offering incredible sounds output
  • Firmware v2.1 for iPhone offering many bug fixes

All this hitting the market is going to take Apple to a new level. They have already seen an incredible few years and have gained even more pace in the last 60 days since the release of the iPhone 3G and the App Store. These new products are going to be a big thing.

Steve Jobs also covered to rumors of his apparent death. Claiming that this was in fact not true… Yeah, who would have thought?

Sometimes simplicity is all you need. There are many sites out there which allow you to upload your location by GPS and display it on your blog. But they all try to incorporate just about every feature under the sun to try and tempt users to sign up. I have been looking for a simple application to show my approximate location to my web visitors, but I don’t want anything all-singing, all dancing, and zoomable to my exact point at street level. I don’t want complete strangers knowing my exact location. I have also wanted something that will integrate with Fire Eagle. Today I found it.

Blogloc does just that - and at the moment, nothing else. You can tell it your location via the web site, your mobile phone if it has an integrated GPS receiver or a Bluetooth one, or via Fire Eagle. It displays a simple Google map as a static image, which can be used as a badge on your blog. Read the rest of this entry…

I just got an email from a “user” who wanted to share her photos with me. But this immediately grabbed my attention. Why?

Because the email was from the user herself, not from flickr. Remember, invitations are from FLICKR, not any yahoo address. Notice in the image (click to enlarge), it even has a nice Flickr link, but on hovering over it, the link is displayed as flikr-photos.com… yeah OK! Be careful of these people and protect yourself!

Today I found a very cool web application called Oosah. It is a media storage website. Yes, there are many storage websites out there, but have you ever heard of a free 1TB of storage? Oosah does just that.

At first I thought it was too good to be true, so I decided to register an account and check it out. Registering is fast, simple, and doesn’t even require email activation. Oosah is currently in beta and I have seen some small errors appear here and there, however there are no big problems that would stop you from using a function of Oosah.

A great thing about Oosah is that it comes packed with free utilities that help you combine your media from other upload sites such as Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, and YouTube. It also lets you upload media to the external sites such as uploading a video to Oosah and having it upload to YouTube. Overall, besides its minor glitches, Oosah is a very good website and I would love to see it progress.

Oosah is currently free for anyone to join. Additionally, if you have an iPhone, Oosah is completely web based so there’s nothing to install!

Ipoki rocks. It describes itself as a GPS-based social network, which means that with a suitable mobile phone and GPS receiver, you can broadcast your exact location to your friends, no matter where you are in the world. I have been using it for some time.
For a while I have thought, “Wouldn’t it be good if Ipoki integrated with Fire Eagle?” Then all my location-enabled social networks could pick up my location. Alternatively, I could update my location in Fire Eagle or another application that integrates with it, and my location could be picked up and shown on my Ipoki map. Well, it seems that the developers of Ipoki had the same idea, as Ipoki now integrates with Fire Eagle! Read the rest of this entry…

ScreenShot040 Just released a few days ago, I’ve been playing with this really cool new browser from Google, appropriately titled Chrome.

The Chrome browser is really simple to use and intuitive. Sleek lines and a very web 2.0 layout. It’s based from four different engines that include Mozilla, AppleWebKit, Chrome itself and Safari! With these four powers combined, Chrome really blows everything out of the water.

Upon installing Chrome, it automatically imported my FireFox settings and shortcuts.

While it doesn’t exactly support plugins yet, Chrome for me doesn’t really need it. As of this writing, the browser only has a 12MB memory footprint, which totally rocks. It’s not as bloated as the other browsers out there, even with it’s fast and powerful browsing capabilities.

Location-based social networking is, in the eyes of many, the next big thing the Internet is going to offer. We all should be used to the concept of networking by now, with many of us being members of Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, or maybe all three. We’ve all been able to keep in touch with friends much more easily with these amazing sites, and have been able to connect with old ones whom we haven’t even heard of for 15 years or more. But these social networks have one thing missing: they don’t know where you are.

Enter ZKOUT. This is one of several embryonic social networks that will allow you to connect with others, send messages, share pictures and videos, together with telling it your exact location, and sharing it with your friends. Gone is the day when your friends haven’t a clue where you are, gone is the day when you may have been in one coffee shop in town and your long-lost friend may have been in the one next door. At least that’s the theory. The question as to whether the masses will actually want their friends to know where they are every minute of the day, still has to be answered.

For the past few days I had a strange problem. My WP Stats wasn’t displaying new traffic anymore! It went downhill and it stayed at the bottom for several days. I knew it couldn’t be anything I said or did to cause this to happen, so I started digging around.

After several links on Google, I found the answer to my question.

Jeff, from wordpressmax.com wrote a quick how-to to fixing this issue. Apparently a small line of code was not included by the author of the theme I had just installed… a few days ago.

Thank you Jeff for finding this!
